The skills section is one of the first things recruiters and ATS software look at. But listing 20 random skills does not help. Choose well and back up what you write.
Hard skills vs soft skills
Hard skills are technical and measurable, such as Excel, SAP, Photoshop or Python. Soft skills are personal, such as communication, teamwork and problem solving. A strong CV combines both.
Top soft skills
Communication • Teamwork • Problem solving • Time management • Adaptability • Leadership • Attention to detail • Critical thinking • Customer focus • Working under pressure

How to choose the right skills
- Read the job ad and list the skills it asks for.
- Keep the ones you genuinely have.
- Add your strongest remaining skills up to 8–10.
Prove each skill in your experience
Every skill you list should have evidence in your experience. If you write Leadership, add a bullet like "Led a team of 5".
Skills to leave out
- Obvious skills such as "Internet browsing".
- Skills you do not really have; you will be asked about them.
- Percentages or star ratings like "Excel 80%"; they mean little and ATS cannot read them.
