A cover letter is a short letter sent with your CV explaining why you are right for this specific job. Not every company asks for one, but when it is required or when you apply by email, it is what makes the recruiter open your CV in the first place.
When do you need a cover letter?
- When the job ad asks for one.
- When you email your CV to HR (the email itself acts as a short cover letter).
- When applying to international companies or roles abroad.
The structure: four short paragraphs
- Opening: the role you are applying for and where you saw it.
- Why you fit: your experience and a key achievement with numbers.
- Why this company: something specific you like about it.
- Closing: your interest in an interview and a thank you.
Keep it under one page, about 200–300 words, and do not repeat your CV.

Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to apply for the Digital Marketing Specialist position advertised on LinkedIn. With four years of experience running paid and organic campaigns for consumer brands, I am confident I can help your team grow its online presence.
In my current role, I manage a monthly ad budget of $30K and grew our Instagram audience from 120K to 310K in 18 months, while increasing online conversion by 35%. I enjoy combining creative content with data to find what really works.
I have followed your brand's recent expansion into e-commerce, and I would love to bring my experience in performance marketing to support that growth.
Thank you for considering my application. I have attached my CV and would welcome the chance to discuss how I can contribute to your team.
Best regards,
Nour Ibrahim

Quick tips
- Use the recruiter's name if you know it instead of "Dear Hiring Manager".
- Rewrite the third paragraph for every company; never send the same letter to all.
- Do not write "I am the best candidate"; let the numbers speak.
- Double-check the company name; sending a letter that names another company is the worst mistake.
