Many interviews are now online, especially first rounds and international roles. Online interviews have their own rules, and small technical problems can spoil a good impression.
Before the interview
- Test the software: install Zoom or Teams a day early and join a test meeting.
- Internet: sit near the router, stop downloads and keep mobile data as a backup.
- Lighting: light in front of you, not behind.
- Camera: at eye level with your face centered.
- Sound: a headset with a mic beats laptop speakers; pick the quietest room.
- Background: a plain, tidy wall or a blurred background.
- Outfit: exactly as for an in-person interview, top and bottom.
During the interview
- Join 5 minutes early with your real name on the account.
- Look at the camera when you speak, not the screen.
- Speak a little slower and pause before answering to allow for audio delay.
- Keep notes and your CV nearby, but do not read from them.

- Stay calm. Rejoin immediately; if you cannot, email or message the recruiter right away, apologize and offer to continue by phone.
Sorry, my connection dropped for a moment. Could you please repeat the last question?
