Timeline
Use this templateWhat to include
Name, phone with country code (+974 if you are in Qatar) and city, e.g. Doha, Qatar or Amman, Jordan. Employers distinguish clearly between local candidates and those who need to be recruited from abroad.
If you hold a Qatari residence permit, a line like Residence permit: Valid (QID) clarifies your status. Never include the ID number, and only state what is accurate.
Name the sector you are targeting (energy, construction, hospitality, education), your years of experience and your top achievement in three sentences.
Quantify results. If you worked on infrastructure, major events or energy facilities, name them and your role.
Degree and university, plus any professional license your field requires (healthcare, engineering, teaching).
In energy and construction, credentials such as NEBOSH, IOSH or ISO training carry weight, so give them their own section.
Arabic and English levels, plus a Notice period line so the employer can plan your start date.
What to leave off
- ID or passport numbers — They are not needed on a CV and create privacy risks.
- Hiding that you are abroad — The employer will find out anyway; being clear builds trust.
- Expired safety certificates without a note — Add the expiry date or note that renewal is in progress.
- Complex templates on big portals — ATS can scramble columns and tables.
ATS and CVs in Qatar
Qatar's largest employers, including energy and LNG companies, the national airline group, and major hospitals and universities, take applications through online career portals with applicant tracking systems. The software parses your CV and matches it to the role before a recruiter sees it.
- Choose a single-column template like Executive or Modern; keep the Photo template for hospitality and aviation roles where photos are welcome.
- Write certifications in full and abbreviated form, e.g. NEBOSH International General Certificate.
- Use the job title exactly as it appears in the ad.
- Do not put key details in headers or footers, which some systems ignore.
- If the portal asks you to fill in fields manually, keep them consistent with the CV.
Check your file with the CV checker before uploading, and run the ad through the job matcher.

Applying for jobs in Qatar
Most jobs in Qatar are in Doha and Lusail, with others in Al Wakrah and the Ras Laffan industrial area linked to gas. Key sectors include energy and LNG, construction and infrastructure, hospitality, tourism and events, aviation, education, healthcare and financial services.
- Job sites: LinkedIn, Bayt, Naukrigulf and GulfTalent, plus the career portals of major employers. Recruitment agencies are important for technical and engineering roles.
- Qatarization: a policy encouraging the employment of Qatari nationals, most visible in energy, government and banking.
- Changing employers: rules on job changes for residents have changed in recent years, so check the latest updates from official sources.
- Credentials: many roles require degree attestation or equivalency, and healthcare and teaching need a license.
- Notice period: project-based employers often plan start dates around deadlines, so state your notice period clearly and keep contact details current for quick interviews.
- Driving license: a Qatari license can help in sales and field roles; converting a foreign license depends on your nationality, so check official guidance.
Always check official government sources or ask the employer before acting.
CV language
English is the working language of most private-sector employers in Qatar, especially in energy, aviation, hospitality and international firms, so an English CV is the norm. British spelling is slightly more common in formal correspondence, but American English is fine if consistent.
Arabic is the official language and matters in ministries, government bodies and some national institutions. Our builder outputs English or French CVs only; if an employer asks for an Arabic version, use the CV translator as a starting point and review the result yourself.
CV or resume?
In Qatar the common term is CV, while American companies and US university branches in Doha may say resume. Content usually follows Gulf norms, with more personal details than in Europe or the US, such as nationality, residence permit status and sometimes date of birth. For American institutions in Qatar, you can trim personal details toward a US-style resume; see our US guide.
Cover letters in Qatar
Cover letters are requested more often in Qatar for education, university and senior administrative roles than in sales or hospitality, where applications move quickly. When required, keep it formal and short: the role, your closest experience in the same sector in Qatar or the Gulf, and your residence permit status and notice period. Start with a draft from the cover letter generator and tailor it.
FAQ
Should I mention my residence permit on a CV for Qatar?
If you hold a valid permit, yes; a short line like Residence permit: Valid helps. Do not include the ID number. If you are abroad, simply state your current location.
Is a photo required?
No, but it is common in hospitality, aviation and private education. On large energy company portals, a CV without a photo is usually easier for ATS.
Should my CV for Qatar be in Arabic or English?
English for most of the private sector; Arabic matters in government. Our builder outputs English, and the CV translator can help with an Arabic draft that you then review.
Which sectors hire most in Qatar?
Energy and gas, construction, hospitality and events, aviation, education and healthcare. Choose keywords to match the sector.
Should I include date of birth and nationality?
Nationality, usually yes. Date of birth is common but optional; it is your choice.
What should teachers include on a CV for Qatar?
Teaching qualification, curricula taught (British, American, IB, national), grade levels and any teaching license. See also our teacher CV example.
Is this builder free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and downloads PDF or Word in A4.
