Use this templateWhat to include
Name, phone with country code (+966 if you are in the Kingdom) and city, such as Riyadh, Jeddah or Al Khobar. Nationality is almost always listed.
If you are resident, a line like Iqama: Valid, transferable makes a real difference because it saves the employer time and paperwork. Only state what is accurate.
Applying to construction, energy or tourism projects? Mention experience on similar projects in your first two lines.
Engineers and project managers should name the project, its scale and their role. Saudi recruiters want to see real projects, not generic duties.
List degree and university plus any professional registration, such as with the Saudi Council of Engineers or the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
One line such as Notice period: 2 months, or Immediate joiner if you can start now.
Give clear Arabic and English levels. A Saudi driving license matters for field sales and site roles.
What to leave off
- Inaccurate iqama details — Residency is checked during processing, and errors hurt your credibility.
- Duties without projects — "Responsible for site supervision" is not enough; name the project and result.
- Informal photos — Saudi employers expect a professional appearance in CV photos.
- Sidebar templates for big employers — ATS at energy firms and giga-projects may misread them.
ATS and CVs in Saudi Arabia
Energy and petrochemical companies, giga-projects and major banks in Saudi Arabia receive thousands of applications, and most use online career portals with built-in applicant tracking systems. Your CV is often read first by software looking for specific titles and keywords.
- Choose a single-column template like Executive or Timeline; keep the Photo template for employers that explicitly ask for a photo.
- Write job titles in English exactly as in the ad, e.g. Site Engineer or HSE Officer.
- Name the tools and standards you use (Primavera P6, AutoCAD, SAP, IFRS).
- Use one date format throughout (e.g. Mar 2021 – Present).
- Skip icons and tables, and write nationality and iqama status as plain text.
Run a quick test with the CV checker and use the job matcher to find keywords missing from your CV.

Applying for jobs in Saudi Arabia
Saudi jobs cluster in Riyadh (headquarters, government and banking), Jeddah (trade, ports and tourism) and the Eastern Province, including Dammam, Al Khobar and Jubail (energy and petrochemicals). Vision 2030 projects drive demand in construction, tourism, entertainment and technology.
- Job sites: LinkedIn, Bayt, Naukrigulf and GulfTalent, plus career portals of major companies. Government employment platforms also exist, aimed mainly at Saudi nationals.
- Saudization: this policy encourages hiring Saudi nationals, and some occupations are reserved for or prioritize them, which affects which roles are open to expatriates.
- Professional accreditation: engineers usually need registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers, and healthcare workers need classification by the relevant authority.
- Degree attestation: often required for visas and professional registration, so prepare documents early.
- Notice period and references: employers commonly ask for your notice period and may contact previous employers, so keep dates and titles accurate and have referees ready.
Regulations are updated regularly, so always check official government sources or confirm with the employer.
CV language
Large companies and international private-sector employers usually expect an English CV. Arabic carries more weight in Saudi Arabia than in some other Gulf markets, and many organizations correspond in Arabic, so state your level clearly if you speak it. Bilingual candidates are often valued in customer-facing and government-related roles.
Some employers request an Arabic version. Our builder outputs CVs in English or French only, so for an Arabic copy use the CV translator as a starting point and review the result yourself, especially job titles.
CV or resume?
In Saudi Arabia people say CV or "sira dhatiya" (the Arabic term), rarely resume. The content follows Gulf norms: personal details such as nationality, iqama status and sometimes date of birth and marital status, followed by experience and education. Two pages is typical, a little more for project-heavy careers, but shorter is usually better. Applying to an American firm? See our US guide for the differences.
Cover letters in Saudi Arabia
Cover letters are not central to most Saudi applications, but they help when you email a recruiter directly or a large employer asks for one. Keep the tone formal and respectful and the letter short: greeting, the role, your most relevant project or sector experience, and your iqama status and notice period. The cover letter generator writes in English or Arabic depending on the employer.
In-depth guide
Saudi Arabia is one of the largest job markets in the region, with opportunities in engineering and construction, accounting and finance, sales, education and technology. Competition is strong, so your CV needs to answer the employer's first questions at a glance: who you are, what you do well, where you are now and when you can start.
Personal details on a Saudi CV
Gulf CVs generally include more personal information than European ones, and employers are used to seeing it:
- Nationality: very commonly included, because it affects the hiring process.
- Current location: write the city and country where you live now (for example, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia or Cairo, Egypt). Employers want to know whether you are inside or outside the Kingdom.
- Iqama status, if you are already in Saudi Arabia: you may note your residency status and whether it is transferable, but state it accurately and without unnecessary detail. If you are unsure of your legal situation, check with official sources or your employer.
- Photo: common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. If you include one, use a professional photo on a light background in work attire.
- Driving licence: if you hold a valid Saudi or GCC licence and it matters for the role (field sales, for example), list it.
- Notice period: if you are currently employed, say how soon you can start.
Arabic and English
Most large companies and private-sector employers expect an English CV. Some government entities and local companies may prefer Arabic or ask for both. Keep a strong English version as your main CV and an accurate Arabic translation of the same content. If Arabic is your first language, list it as Native under Languages; it is a genuine advantage in the Saudi market.
Our CV translator can produce the second version, but review the job titles yourself. To check a specific title, see our Arabic-English job titles table.
Saudization in brief
Saudi Arabia has workforce localisation policies, often called Saudization, which reserve certain professions or a share of positions for Saudi nationals. In practice, some ads will say the role is for Saudi nationals only, while others are open to everyone. Practical advice:
- Read each ad carefully and check whether it is open to your nationality.
- If you are a Saudi national, make your nationality clear near the top of your CV.
- The rules change over time, so rely on official sources such as the Ministry of Human Resources website rather than hearsay.
Degree attestation and professional registration
In many professions, especially engineering, healthcare, accounting and teaching, employers may require attested or equivalent degrees, or registration with a Saudi professional body. You do not need to describe these procedures on your CV. If you already hold a professional registration (such as membership of the engineering council), list it under Certifications with its correct name. If you have not completed it, do not imply that you have. Requirements differ by profession, so check them on the relevant official websites.
Experience: connect it to the Saudi market
If you have experience in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Gulf, make it visible; employers value local experience and familiarity with regulations. If your experience is all elsewhere, focus on projects and results that resemble the employer's work. An example for a civil engineer:
Site Engineer, ABC Contracting — Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2022–Present)
- Supervised structural works for a 12-storey residential building, coordinating daily with consultants and subcontractors.
- Prepared weekly progress reports and quantity surveys for the main contractor.
Each bullet describes real, specific work. Do not inflate project sizes or add figures you cannot stand behind. See our civil engineer CV example if your field is similar.
If all your experience is in Egypt or another country, do not worry. Write the company name, city and country clearly, and explain the type of projects or clients you worked with. Saudi employers hire widely from abroad; what matters is that your experience is close to the work required and that you can explain it with real examples in the interview.
Where to apply
- LinkedIn: widely used in Saudi Arabia, especially by large employers. Keep your profile consistent with your CV and show your current city.
- Bayt: one of the best-known job sites in the Gulf. Complete your profile and upload your CV as a PDF.
- Company career portals: major employers run their own application systems.
- Recruitment agencies: work only with established, reputable agencies, and be wary of anyone who asks for money in exchange for a promised job.
Tailor your CV to every ad
Large Saudi employers use ATS software, so the important keywords from the ad should appear in your CV, as long as they are true for you. Use the job matcher: paste the ad and your CV to see which keywords are missing and what needs clarifying. If the ad asks for a cover letter, draft one with the cover letter tool.
The bottom line
A CV for Saudi Arabia means professional English, clear personal details (nationality, city, notice period), specific and honest experience, and keywords drawn from the ad. Start in the CV builder with a simple single-column template.
FAQ
Is a photo important on a Saudi CV?
Photos are very common and some employers ask for them, but not every ad requires one. If you add one, keep it formal. For large company portals with ATS, a template without a photo parses more easily.
How do I mention my iqama on a CV?
If you are in the Kingdom: Iqama: Valid, transferable, or whatever accurately describes your status. If abroad: Current location: Cairo, Egypt. Do not put your iqama number on the CV.
Do I need to include nationality?
Usually yes, because it affects hiring procedures and Saudization. The recruiter will ask anyway.
Should my CV be in Arabic or English?
English for most private employers, though some ask for Arabic. Our builder outputs English; use the CV translator for an Arabic draft and review it yourself.
What should engineers add?
Named projects with scale and type, tools such as Primavera and AutoCAD, and your Saudi Council of Engineers registration status if you have one.
How many pages for a Saudi CV?
Two pages is enough for most people. Long engineering careers can run slightly longer, but condense older projects.
Can I make a free CV for Saudi Arabia here?
Yes. The builder is free with no sign-up, includes fields for nationality, visa/iqama status and driving license, and downloads as PDF or Word.
