Use this templateWhat to include
A mobile number with the +20 code, ideally on WhatsApp, and a professional email. Add your LinkedIn URL if the profile is up to date.
Two or three lines saying who you are and what you do best. Tailor it to the role instead of writing generic phrases.
Most recent first, with company, city and dates. Focus on real results, not just duties.
University, faculty, major and graduation year. Add your grade if it is very good or above; graduation projects matter for graduates.
Summer internships and programmes such as ITI or other recognised courses carry real weight for graduates. Include the provider and duration.
Specific tools (Excel, Odoo, SAP, programming languages) and an honest English level. Never list a skill you cannot back up.
For men this is one of the first things recruiters check. State your real status: completed, exempted or postponed.
What to leave off
- National ID number or ID scans — Not needed on a CV and risky for your data.
- Full street address — Area and city are enough.
- Generic summaries like 'hard-working person' — They could describe anyone.
- An Arabic-only CV for a multinational — It may be skipped or misread.
- Casual or selfie photos — If you add a photo, keep it formal with a plain background.
ATS and CVs in Egypt
In Egypt, banks, telecom operators, multinationals and large BPO and call-centre employers often receive thousands of applications per vacancy, so many of them screen CVs through an ATS or an online portal before a recruiter looks. Even on Wuzzuf, employers filter by keywords and years of experience. Smaller and family-run companies usually read CVs by hand, but a clean, structured CV helps in both cases.
- Use a single-column template such as Executive or Modern, with no tables or sidebars.
- Keep standard English headings: Experience, Education, Skills.
- Mirror keywords from the ad (for example "month-end closing" or "B2B sales") when they truly reflect your experience.
- Write dates consistently, such as 03/2023 – Present.
- Send a PDF unless the ad asks for Word.
- Run your CV through the CV checker and compare it with the ad in the job matcher before applying.

Examples by job
Applying for jobs in Egypt
The most common ways to apply in Egypt:
- Wuzzuf: widely used for office and tech roles. Complete your profile and upload your CV as a PDF.
- Forasna: more focused on sales, customer service and entry-level jobs.
- LinkedIn: essential for multinationals, banks and mid-to-senior roles. Keep titles and dates identical to your CV.
- Career fairs and referrals: a referral from someone inside the company still makes a real difference.
Recruiters in Cairo and Alexandria often call or message on WhatsApp first, so keep your phone reachable and your voicemail tidy. Interviewers often ask about your notice period and expected salary, so have a realistic answer ready. After an offer, employers commonly request documents such as your graduation certificate, military status certificate and a criminal record extract; requirements vary by company. Non-Egyptians generally need a work permit arranged through the employer, so ask the company and check official government sources. If you are also considering the Gulf, see our guides for the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
CV language
In Egypt's private sector, English is the expected CV language at almost every large employer, even when daily work happens in Arabic. Call centres serving Europe may want an English CV that also lists German, French or another language in your skills. Some government bodies and local organisations may ask for an Arabic CV or form, so keep an Arabic version ready.
Our builder outputs CVs in English or French only; you can type in Arabic and it translates for you. If you need an Arabic copy, use the CV translator and review the result yourself.
CV or resume?
Egyptians simply say "CV". "Resume" appears in ads from American companies, but it means the same thing: a one- to two-page document. A long academic CV is only expected for university or research positions, where you add publications, conferences and teaching. If you apply to a US company in Egypt, a lean resume style (no photo, few personal details) fits well; our CV examples show both styles.
Cover letters in Egypt
Cover letters are not always required in Egypt. Most applications on Wuzzuf or by email go with the CV alone, but multinationals, international organisations and some banks ask for one or appreciate it. When applying by email, write three or four lines in the email body naming the role and your two strongest reasons for fitting it. If a full letter is requested, keep it to one formal page in English. The cover letter generator can give you a solid first draft.
In-depth guide
Whether you are applying in Cairo, Alexandria or anywhere else in Egypt, your CV is the first thing an employer sees. The Egyptian market shares most international CV conventions, but there are a few local details that can make a real difference. Get them right and your CV feels familiar to recruiters; miss them and it may be set aside without a call.
Arabic or English CV?
The short answer: English, in most cases. Multinationals, banks, telecoms, IT companies and many large Egyptian firms expect an English CV even when the daily work is in Arabic. An Arabic CV is mainly useful for some government bodies, Arabic-language schools, or smaller companies that explicitly ask for one in the job ad.
Keep a strong English version as your main CV. If you need an Arabic version, make it an accurate translation of the same content, adding and removing nothing. Our CV translator can help you switch between the two, but always review the result yourself.
Personal details Egyptian employers ask about
An Egyptian CV often includes a few details you would not see on a European or American one. That is normal:
- Military status: for male candidates this is one of the first things many employers check. Common wording is Completed, Exempted or Postponed. State your actual status exactly.
- City: list your city and district only (for example, Nasr City, Cairo). Commute distance matters to many employers, but a full street address is unnecessary.
- Phone number with country code: +20 followed by your number, ideally one that also works on WhatsApp.
- Photo: optional. If you include one, use a professional headshot on a plain background. For multinationals and ATS-based applications, leaving it out is usually safer.
- Date of birth and marital status: not required and increasingly omitted. Include them only if the ad asks.
A section order that works in Egypt
- Name, target job title and contact details.
- Professional summary of two or three lines.
- Experience, most recent first.
- Education: university, faculty, major, graduation year, and grade if it helps you.
- Skills and languages.
- Courses and certifications.
- Personal details: military status and anything else the employer requests.
Fresh graduates should move education, internships and the graduation project above experience. See our fresh graduate CV example for this layout in practice.
Write a summary aimed at the job
Your summary is the first thing a recruiter reads. Keep it focused on the role you are applying for: years of experience, your field and your strongest selling point. An example for an accountant in Cairo:
The second version could belong to anyone, so it tells the employer nothing about you.
The same applies to experience bullets: start each with a strong verb and add a real result when you have a number you can back up. Instead of "Responsible for invoices", write something like "Processed supplier invoices and reconciled vendor accounts monthly". If there is no number, a clear, specific task beats an invented figure every time.
Egyptian job sites and how to use them
- Wuzzuf: one of the best-known job boards in Egypt. Complete your profile fully and upload your CV as a PDF.
- LinkedIn: essential for large companies and multinationals. Make sure job titles and dates match your CV exactly.
- Forasna: useful for sales, customer service and entry-level roles.
- Company career pages: many employers post openings on their own websites with an online application system.
One important habit: do not send an identical CV to every job. Adjust your summary and skills to each ad.
ATS at large employers
Large companies in Egypt, especially banks and multinationals, use applicant tracking systems that filter CVs before a person reads them. To get through:
- Use a single-column layout with no complex tables or text inside images.
- Use standard section headings such as Experience, Education and Skills.
- Include the important keywords from the ad, but only for skills you genuinely have.
- Send a PDF unless the employer asks for Word.
Run your file through the CV checker to catch layout and section problems, and use the job matcher to compare your CV with a specific ad and spot missing keywords.
Common mistakes on Egyptian CVs
- Do not list skills you do not have just because the ad mentions them. You will be asked about them in the interview.
- Skip "References available upon request"; it is assumed and wastes space.
- Proofread your English carefully. Spelling mistakes suggest a lack of attention to detail.

FAQ
Should my CV for Egypt be in English or Arabic?
English for most private and international companies. Arabic may be requested for some government jobs or small local firms, so keeping both versions is useful.
Do I need to include military status?
If you are an Egyptian man, yes, it is strongly recommended because many employers check it first. State your exact status.
Should I add a photo?
It is optional. Many Egyptian employers are used to photos, but for multinationals and online portals it is usually better without. If you add one, keep it formal.
How long should an Egyptian CV be?
One page if you have under roughly five years of experience, two pages at most otherwise.
Should I mention my university grade?
Include it if it is very good or excellent. Otherwise list faculty, major and year, and focus on internships and skills.
Should I write my expected salary on the CV?
No. Salary is discussed in the interview or in the application form if asked, not on the CV.
Which template works for Wuzzuf and banks?
A single-column template such as Executive, Modern or Minimal, so ATS software reads it correctly.
Is this CV builder free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, and you can download PDF and Word files.
