How to write a project manager resume
1. Put numbers on every project
Budget, team size, timeline and outcome. "Delivered a $1.2M project 3 weeks early" tells the whole story in one line.
2. Show your methodology
Mention Agile, Scrum, Waterfall or hybrid, and the tools you use (Jira, MS Project, Smartsheet) exactly as written in the job post.
3. Feature certifications prominently
PMP, CAPM, CSM or PMI-ACP can go next to your name and in a Certifications section.
4. Focus on outcomes, not ceremonies
Running stand-ups is expected. What changed because of your leadership? Faster delivery, lower cost, happier clients?
5. Tailor to the industry
IT, construction and healthcare PMs use different vocabulary. Mirror the language of the posting where it truthfully applies.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a PMP to get a project manager job?
Not always, but many mid and senior roles prefer it. If you are studying for it, list "PMP candidate, expected 2026".
How do I write a project manager resume with no PM title?
Highlight projects you led informally: scope, team, budget and result. Titles like coordinator, team lead or analyst often include real project management work.
How long should a project manager resume be?
One page for under 8–10 years of experience; two pages are fine for senior and program-level roles.
What metrics should a PM resume include?
Budget size, number of projects, team size, on-time/on-budget rate, cost savings and adoption or satisfaction rates.
