How to write a sales representative resume

1. Put your quota numbers first

Sales managers look for quota attainment, revenue closed and ranking. Lead each job with your strongest number, such as percentage of quota or dollars closed.

2. Give context for every number

A figure means more with context. "118% of a $1.35M quota" or "top 3 of 22 reps" is more convincing than a percentage alone. Only use numbers you can explain in an interview.

3. Show your whole sales process

Include prospecting, discovery, demos, negotiation and account growth so readers see you can handle the full cycle, not just closing.

4. Name the tools you actually use

Many job posts ask for Salesforce, HubSpot or Sales Navigator. List the CRMs and tools you have really worked with, since interviewers often ask how you manage your pipeline.

5. Keep it to one page

Most sales resumes fit on one page. Cut duties like "attended sales meetings" and keep space for results and awards such as Presidents Club.

Frequently asked questions

What should a sales representative resume include?

A short summary, a skills section, and work experience focused on quota attainment, revenue, pipeline and client retention. Add awards, relevant certifications and your education.

How do I write a sales resume with no sales experience?

Highlight customer-facing roles such as retail, hospitality or fundraising, and show results like upsells, targets met or customer ratings. Mention competitive activities and your comfort with outreach.

Should I include my quota on my resume?

Yes, if you can share it. Percentage of quota is the most common measure, and adding the quota amount or your team ranking gives it context.

What is the best resume format for sales?

A reverse-chronological format works best because it shows steady progress and recent results. Keep the layout simple so ATS systems can read it.
