How to write a business analyst resume
1. Show outcomes, not only documents
Writing requirements is the task; faster approvals, fewer defects or lower costs are the result. Link your work to measurable business impact you can explain.
2. Name your methods and tools
Mention the methods you use, such as BPMN, use cases, user stories or UAT, and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Visio, SQL and Power BI.
3. Mention the industry
Domain knowledge in banking, healthcare or logistics is valuable. State the industries you have worked in.
4. List certifications accurately
IIBA certifications (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP) or a PMI-PBA can help, but list only those you have earned. Write "in progress" if you are still studying.
5. Keep it readable
A business analyst should communicate clearly. Use short bullets, plain language and a simple layout.

Frequently asked questions
What should a business analyst resume include?
A summary, skills, and experience showing requirements gathering, process analysis, stakeholder work and measurable results, plus education and relevant certifications.
How do I become a business analyst with no experience?
Highlight analytical and process work from other roles, such as improving a workflow, building reports or documenting procedures. Learn SQL and Excel and create a sample requirements document or process map.
Do business analysts need technical skills?
Most need some: SQL, Excel and a BI tool are common, plus familiarity with Agile tools like Jira. Deep programming is usually not required.
Is a business analyst the same as a data analyst?
They overlap, but business analysts focus on processes and requirements for change, while data analysts focus on analyzing data and reporting insights.
