How to write a professional CV: 7 tips

Recruiters usually spend less than a minute on a CV. These tips help yours get read and understood fast:

  1. Use a clear job title

Put the role you are applying for right under your name, such as "Senior Accountant" or "Sales Executive".

  2. Keep the summary to 2–4 sentences

Mention your years of experience, your main field and your two strongest skills. Avoid vague phrases like "hard-working person".

  3. Start bullets with a verb and add numbers

Instead of "Responsible for sales", write "Grew sales by 30% in one year". Numbers make the difference.

  4. List experience from newest to oldest

Your latest job comes first, with dates (month and year), company and location.

  5. One or two pages at most

Focus on experience relevant to the job. Old or unrelated courses can go.

  6. Add your LinkedIn

Most recruiters look you up on LinkedIn. Keep your profile up to date and consistent with your CV.

  7. Choose a simple, ATS-friendly layout

Large companies use software that reads CVs automatically. Single-column templates with real text, like ours, are parsed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Statselkora CV really free?

Yes. It is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermark and no subscription. You can download your CV as PDF and Word at no cost; the site is supported by ads.

Can I update my existing CV?

Yes. Choose "Update my old CV" and upload your PDF or Word file. We fill in the form automatically, then you add your new job, course or skill and download a fresh version.

Do you store my data?

No. There is no database and no account. Your CV is generated inside your browser, your photo and certificates are never uploaded, and everything disappears when you close the page.

Is the CV ATS-friendly?

Yes. All templates use a single column, standard fonts and real selectable text (not an image), which is what applicant tracking systems read best.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

In the Middle East and parts of Europe and Asia a photo is common, so use the Photo template. For the US, UK and Canada a CV without a photo is usually preferred, so choose Executive, Modern or Minimal.

What is the difference between a CV and a resume?

A resume is a short (1–2 page) summary focused on the job you want, while a CV can be longer and more detailed. Our templates produce a concise, professional document that works as both.

Can I write my details in Arabic?

Yes. Any Arabic text is translated to English automatically. Review the result and fix anything with "Edit details".

How do I edit my CV after downloading?

Download the Word version and open it in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, or come back and upload it again using "Update my old CV".

Can I make a CV in French?

Yes. Before you click Create, choose CV language: Français. Your CV gets French section headings and dates, and your details are translated automatically from Arabic or English. Review the translation before sending it.
